Guidelines for a Successful Tourism Business

Check List & Score Card

By Tim Warren © 2003

Individuals, family or friends start the majority of tourism businesses around the world. They are people filled with enthusiasm, knowledge of a region, sport or culture and a desire to earn money. All are convinced tourism is a good way to earn more income, have fun, work less then their existing occupation and hopefully make a difference on the planet. Although this is a real possibility - for many their dreams turn into a nightmare. A lack of knowledge of the all the steps to be successful is a big part of why companies fail.

Use this score card to self assess and score yourself and/or business

  • 0 through 3 in each area
  • 3 being the highest level of confidence/excellence
  • 0 the lowest level of confidence/needs a lot of help
  • There are 40 questions for a possible total of 120 points

Answering the score card and grading yourself will give you a better understanding of where you need to focus your efforts. Have every key partner & manager take this assessment to determine strengths, weakness and differences in talents and perceptions. Be brutally honest with your self-assessment scoring. You are the one to lose or gain if you do not assess yourself accurately. Included in numerous categories are relevant articles and resources to help with your professional development.
